The former minister had been imprisoned following thenon-payment of his debts to the state after his conviction in the “cabinet
bonuses” case. Nearly two months after his incarceration, Claude Guéant will be
able to leave prison on Wednesday and benefit from conditional release, without
an electronic bracelet.

According to Europe 1, he mentioned health problems tojustify his request for release.

Case of cabinet bonuses

Claude Guéant had been sentenced on appeal in the case ofcash bonuses from the Ministry of the Interior. Justice accused the latter,
when he was Nicolas Sarkozy's chief of staff, of having paid himself 5,000
euros in cash each month between 2002 and 2004. A sum taken from an envelope
intended for the costs of investigation and police surveillance.
